I remember it vividly. It was the summer of 1986 and I my parents had just bought a new house and we had moved schools (I was going to start 5th grade at a new school). Our new house had an enormous backyard filled with large oak trees and out beyond the backyard was a creek and a walking trail that went on for many miles. I spent quite a bit of time that summer exploring this new environement and during those many hours spent outdoors I would daydream. I should have realized even at that early age I was going to be an uber tech geek because the one thing that kept coming into my mind was the desire for my own personal computer. How cool would it be to be able to have my own account complete with a password and be able to perform basic computing tasks and my very own machine! Never in my wildest daydreams did I imagine that I could do today what I can with the tiny "supercomputer" I carry around in my pocket called an iPhone.
The video below from TheFineBros was originally part of an article posted at TUAW. Given the simple tasks I so desperately wished I could perform on my very own computer growing up and comparing them to what is possible today was fun to think about as I watched this video of kids today reacting to an old Apple II computer. We really do take technology for granted.
