This week's Vincent Award goes to David Kuhn. David is a 62 year old grandfather who is running 11,000 miles around the United States (the equivalent of over 400 marathons) to raise money to fight cystic fibrosis. David's 12 year old granddaughter has cystic fibrosis and is his prime motivation for this epic run. This quote from David pretty much says it all:
"For someone born with cystic fibrosis, the average life expectancy is 35 years," Kuhn said. "I am nearly double that now, and don't want to look back and say, 'I should have done more to help her.' I don't know how many nails it will take to build a coffin and bury this disease, but if I can help extend the life of those afflicted by one day, it will be worth the effort."
There is one more thing about David you should know, he is blind.
There are many ways you can help David in his quest to raise funds for the fight against cystic fibrosis:
- Volunteer: Since David is blind he needs some help. Someone to run with him every day or someone who can drive him to a local track where he can run unaided. If you have a motorhome you could drive along the route that would also save him the cost of lodging expenses.
- Donate to his cause via his website
Good luck David, you are definitely "not holding anything back" with this run!
